On Jan. 8th, 2012, I will be taking an icy plunge and swimming 3.1 miles across Tampa Bay to support my brave brothers of Navy Special Warfare. As you may have heard, we lost some of the greatest warriors and men on Aug. 6 and the money raised from this event will go to their families. On January 3rd, 2010 with less than 3 weeks notice, over 100 people gathered at Gandy Beach to swim and support raising over $30,000 for a severely injured active duty Navy SEAL. The swim has been formally named the Tampa Bay Frogman Swim and is supported by the Navy SEAL Foundation.

Farmer Dave's Bethany made a simplified version of this soup for Thanksgiving. She didn't roast the yam, just cut everything up (except the onions) and put it in a slow cooker. Then caramelized the onions as directed, added them to the slow cooker, and proceeded with the recipe. Amazing! and great for using some of those yummy root veggies in the late fall share.
